The 10th Doctoral Reunion in Media-Digital Art (DMAD retreat 2023), will be held next week between the 10th and 14th of July, at Convento do Espírito Santo, in Loulé.
The event is part of a collaboration between the Universities of Algarve and The Open University and, after another end of the school year, the DMAD course brings together its participants in an intense week of work with presentations, exhibitions, and lectures that will allow students, teachers, guests, and the public to show, interact and obtain greater knowledge in the field of digital art.
During the five-day event, participants will discuss the contemporary world of the arts, the digital, and technology applied for the service of humanity, in general, and the Arts, in particular – as highlighted by Professor Nuno Bicho, Vice-Rector of the University of Algarve “these will be five days of an immersive experience of humanism, creation, culture, and aesthetics that will allow all involved a substantial qualitative leap in a full integration into the contemporary world of the Arts, which makes us (more human)”.
The Rector of the Open University, Professor Dr. Carla Padrel de Oliveira congratulates all participants on the 10.º DMAD Reunion, reminding that this event “meets the needs of academia and society at the level of transdisciplinarity of the different areas of scientific, artistic and digital specialization and, simultaneously, reinforce and strengthen the social ties of a virtual community of practice characteristic of online distance education”.
CIAC artist and researcher Pedro Cabral Santo presides the inaugural conference “Motion In Motion: creation processes in motion image” and researchers Mirian Tavares and Pedro Alves from Veiga take over the closing ceremony of the event. Throughout the week, DMAD professors (from the University of Algarve and the Open University of Lisbon) lecture masterclasses and workshops.
Some highlights of the DMAD 2023 program are: Visit to the exhibition of works by Visual Arts Students and a Visit to the Alfaia Association; sessions on Media and Digital art with researchers Gabriela Borges and Bruno Mendes da Silva; a session Digital Artivism and a session on Generative Art.
