SÍLVIA VIEGAS LEADS WORKSHOP ON SOLIDARITY NETWORKS TO SUPPORT MIGRANTS

On 11 July 2023, at 17h00, CIAC researcher Sílvia Viegas moderates the workshop (Im)mobilities and solidarities in Europe, taught by Dora Rebelo, from the Centre for Research and Social Intervention. The workshop will be delivered in English via Zoom and no registration is required.

In this workshop, Dora Rebelo deals with the increasingly hostile migration and asylum policies in the EU and gives examples of solidarity programs that have been developed as a form of resistance. The researcher monitored the development of networks and alliances, between 2015 and 2020 and how these, by joining forces in Migration Justice Actions, actively challenged the norms of freedom of movement and migration policies in the EU. Rebelo argues that these support networks provide room for solidarity and information.

(Im)mobilities and solidarities in Europe is part of the seminar series Migration(s) and Global crisis, organized by Inter-Thematic Group on migration (ITM), from the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra. This seminar series studies migration(s) as a phenomenon that is both geopolitical and urban, social, and cultural, as well as technologically determined by various interoperational biopolitical surveillance regimes.

Migration(s) and the Global crisis adopts a one-hour format, where a speaker is invited to discuss a chosen topic and dialogue with the seminar organizers and with the audience. The seminars are held in an online format and are open to the public.
