MIRIAN TAVARES PARTICIPATES IN A ROUND TABLE ON FEMINISM AND GENDER ISSUES HAPPENING ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
On 8 March 2023, at 18h00, CIAC coordinator Mirian Tavares participates in the debate/Round Table Feminism, a cause that persists or reinvents, which marks International Women’s Day. The event takes place at Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library in Tavira and aims to promote reflection and dialogue on feminism and gender issues, remembering the past and analyzing the meanings of feminism in the current world.
231 years have passed since the publication of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792), by Mary Wollstonecraft, considered the first feminist book. In it, the author demanded the economic independence of women as a form of personal emancipation and respect for equality. Since then, the world has undergone profound changes, which have profoundly modified the understanding of the social, economic, and cultural world. If at first, the demands were essentially for the right to vote, later it was for the role of women in the family and society.
The debate/roundtable Feminism, a cause that persists or reinvents seeks to honor the courage and determination of women who contributed to its struggle to redefine history; and reflect on feminism today and what young people think about this issue.
In addition to Mirian Tavares, other participants present at the event are: Rita Saias (who has taken on different roles in the fields of youth along her career, currently being co-host of the program Law of parity, of radio TSF) and Dino D’santiago (who, in addition to being a musician and composer, is an activist and participates in several projects on equity and social equality), moderated by Mariana Morais (journalist at RTP) and Patrícia Nogueira (who currently collaborates with communication agencies, still being a journalist at the journalism platform Gerador).
