IPDJ FARO HOSTS “THE BIG SHORT FILM PARTY”
On December 20, 21, and 22, the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth in Faro celebrates “The Shortest Day of the Year” with the screening of various short films. The 1st-year students of Communication Sciences at the University of Algarve were invited to present their final works from the Audiovisual Communication course.
Commencing on Wednesday, December 20, at 6:30 pm, a tribute to Graça Lobo unfolds, featuring screenings of short films such as “Corpos Cintilantes” by Inês Teixeira (2023), “Estória do Gato e da Lua” by Pedro Serraniza (1995), “A Noite” by Regina Pessoa (1999), “Clandestino” by Abi Feijó (2005), “História Trágica com Final Feliz” by Regina Pessoa (2005), and “A Suspeita” by José Miguel Ribeiro (1999).
On “the briefest day,” December 21, marking the winter solstice, the program devotes the day to recent portuguese short films, including presentations of “Sopa Fria” by Marta Monteiro, “2.ª Pessoa” by Rita Barbosa, and “Mistida” by Falcão Nhaga.
By Friday, December 22, starting at 10:30 am, a selection of “shorts for everyone” is scheduled, followed by the presentation of films by 1st-year Communication Sciences students from Higher School of Education and Communication, University of Algarve, produced within the framework of the Audiovisual Communication course taught by Bruno Mendes da Silva, researcher and vice-coordinator of CIAC.
The showcased works include:
- “Uma amostra da realidade” by Cristiano Cruz, André Santos, Beatriz Monteiro, Luísa Guerreiro;
- “Os Maestros da Animação” by Ana Neto, Beatriz Santos, Francisco Carmo, Katsiaryna Paulovich, Mônica Appelt;
- “Mais Dia, Menos Dia” by Egor Zhabin, Ana Pinto, Eliska Ouhrabkova, and Sandra Amâncio;
- “Desconhecidos íntimos” by Afonso Nobre, Gonçalo Bessa, Helena Lota, Mafalda Nobre, Tomás Leal;
- “Pretend I never happened” by Mariana Silva, Raul Nunes, Carín Vairinhos, and Nicole Abreu;
- “Rostos da ESEC” Mini-documentary by Caroline Coelho, Josué Guedes, Mariana Barbosa, Ray Ângelo, Tomás Pires, and Yasmin Maciel;
- “Musa” by Beatriz Alexandre, Inês Assunção, Joana Coelho, Rita Oliveira, Tomás Jesus;
- “A journey through adversity” by Mariana Marques.
Additionally, on the same day at 6:30 pm, ETIC Algarve students and young filmmakers from Algarve will present their productions.
The initiative is organized by the following entities: Short Film Agency, Algarve Regional Directorate of IPDJ, Cineclube de Faro, Higher School of Education and Communication (UAlg), CIAC, and ETIC – School of Technologies, Innovation, and Creation of Algarve.
