ANTÓNIO COSTA VALENTE AT THE XXV SANTO TIRSO INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL

After a five-year hiatus, the historic Santo Tirso International Guitar Festival under the motto “Retornos”, runs until October 22, with a program marked by the inclusion of new artistic languages, in dialogue with the instrument.

On Saturday, the 21st, CIAC researcher, António Costa Valente participates, as director of the AVANCA Film Festival, in a round table entitled “Conversa (dis)concertante: Da imagem ao som”, with Fernando Rocha (musician and plastic artist) and Mário Augusto (journalist), for a conversation about the processes of accompaniment, propagation, and transmutation between image and sound, examining their applications, possibilities, and limitations.

The Festival’s program also includes a Showcase of the Festival de Cinema Ma Beach (Brazil), curated by António Costa Valente. The films shown address issues about the guitar and the relationships between music and image.

Santo Tirso’s International Festival, created in 1994, has gained over time the dimension and projection that nowadays place it among the most prestigious artistic events held in Portugal. The festival returned this year after a period of halt in a different format, “maintaining the principles that guided its artistic direction: knowledge, the demand for quality, the democratic perspective on access to art and the holistic approach to the instrument”, according to the event’s website.
