JOAQUIM GUERRA TAKES PART IN AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN ITALY

On 5 April 2023, CIAC researcher Joaquim Guerra makes his contribution to WorldCist’23 -11st World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies. Guerra presents the communication “And now what? Language teaching: What do we learn and what remains after the lockdowns?”, part of the thematic panel “Information Technologies in Education (ITE).” The conference takes place in Pisa, Italy, from 4 to 6 April 2023.

This communication presents the results of a survey addressed to foreign language teachers regarding remote teaching during the pandemic. Foreign language teaching in general has been thought of from a dynamic perspective in face-to-face context learning, where learners and teachers interact immediately and simultaneously in the classroom. The successive lockdowns were a complex test for teaching and learning in general. The pandemic forced a discourse and methodological change with an urgent integration of ICT (Information Systems and Technologies) in the teaching and learning process.  The study revealed that teachers faced pedagogical and technological difficulties, which shows that Emergency Remote Teaching highlighted the general lack of preparation of university teachers to deal with emergency situations.

WorldCist’23 is a global forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, results, experiences, and challenges in the various perspectives of the information Systems and Technologies.
