INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE: SILK CITIES

CIAC CO-ORGANIZES THE 4TH SILK CITIES INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
Between 11 and 14 October 2023, Silk Cities and CIAC (hubs from the University of the Algarve and Open University of Lisbon) promote the 4th Silk Cities International Conference. Under the theme “Intangible Heritage, Cities and Communities” the event will bring together global knowledge rooted in local diversity on relations between intangible heritage as integral parts of urban culture and spatiality of cities. The call for papers is open until the 1st of June 2023.
The 4th Silk Cities International Conference seeks to offer new perspectives and strategies towards a better understanding of urban intangible heritage and to push the traditional theoretical and practical boundaries. Envisaging intangible heritage as tools for sustainable development and resilience, the conference aims to integrate potentials of intangible heritage to inform urban policies and practices as well as the arts and humanities. The Conference will, therefore, foster international dialogues between multiple disciplines, namely: Urban Studies, Art and Culture, Heritages, History and Mapping, Literature, Sociology, Anthropology, Philosophy and Geography, and Politics, Economics and Geopolitics.
This edition welcomes communications on the following topics: Cultural expressions of diverse communities; Physical and digital dimensions of the urban experience; Urban economy, temporal activities, and everyday life; Intangible heritage and resilience to disasters and disruptions; Urban governance, policies, instruments, and practices; Social mobilization, future memories and right to the city; Sustainable tourism, heritage, and local identity; Partnerships, cooperations, and participatory practices.
A selection of papers submitted after the conference will be published in the Springer’s book series Cities, Heritage, and Transformation.
The 4th Silk Cities International Conference will be hosted by the University of Algarve and will be open to scholars, practitioners, international organisations and policy makers. The Conference programme will include academic sessions, keynote/guest speeches, visits and social activities.
