On 11th and 12th June, CIAC researchers Ana Perfeito, Bruno Mendes da Silva, Hugo Canossa and Rosimária Rocha will participate in the 4th edition of the international conference “Stereo & Immersive Media 2021 – Photography, Sound and Cinema Research“. Organized by Universidade Lusófona, the conference takes place in an exclusively online format, on 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th June 2021.

The communication “Film directors as performers – from silent cinema of 1890 to current live cinema” will be presented by Ana Perfeito and Bruno Mendes da Silva, on 11th June, at 5:30pm. The next day, at 3:15pm, Hugo Canossa presents “Videomapping – a fifty-year old technology?” and, at 5:15pm, Rosimária Rocha presents the article “Quintal dos Sons: An Experience from the Sounds of Vale do Jequitinhonha” (also signed by José Bidarra and Ângela Saldanha).

“Stereo & Immersive Media 2021” focuses on immersive technologies (present and old): from stereoscopic photography and 3D cinema to virtual reality. To explore these themes, the conference features well-known international speakers such as Tom Gunning (University of Chicago), Denis Pellerin (Brian May’s Stereoscopy Archive), Elizabeth Edwards (De Monfort University) and Carlos Teixidor (Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain). In addition, there will be guest speakers from european archives and museums and different international researchers.

This year’s edition includes several side events, namely the “S3D Short Film Festival”, a festival of 3D film shorts that featured Ana Isabel Soares (member of the CIAC Executive Board) as a member of the Selection Committee’s jury. Furthermore, an online stereoscopic exhibition “Jorge Marçal da Silva – The Immersive Dimension” is planned (a presentation by the photographer in partnership with the Municipal Photographic Archive of Lisbon, and curated by Sofia Castro and Vítor Gens) and a cinema 2D-3D concert by the director Edgar Pêra, entitled Stravaganza (which consists of editing and live streaming 3D movies).
