ANTÓNIO COSTA VALENTE PARTICIPATES IN THE INTERNATIONAL DESIGN & CINEMA SYMPOSIUM
On 18th June, at 8:30 am (Lisbon time), CIAC researcher António Costa Valente will be present at the International Design & Cinema Symposium, to present “Animation Cinema: design space between technologies and multi choices”. Organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture of Ege University (Turkey), the symposium takes place exclusively online.
“Animation Cinema: design space between technologies and multi choices” analyzes two award-winning animation short films, both for children and produced with very different technologies. Playing house, by Özgül Gürbüz and Cenk Köksal, is a Turkish film produced in three-dimensional digital image. A minha casinha [My little house], by Maria Raquel Atalaia, is a Portuguese film that uses the application and appropriation of existing materials, in a two-dimensional digital production. In parallel, the materials, technologies, narrative processes and design options of each of the films are explored.
Picture-by-picture cinema is one of the vehicles for the development of space design in cinema. Given its uniqueness, which is mostly born from constructed images rather than captured images, animation is developed between materials and technologies.
Aiming to create an academic discussion platform that examines the relationship between Design and Cinema, the symposium covers different themes related to cinematographic imagery, concept design and storyboards, scenography, light and sound design, the configuration of space and design options, special effects, cinematography or graphic design.
