SUSANA COSTA PARTICIPATES IN THE SCIENCE 2023 

On 5 July 2023, CIAC researcher Susana Costa participates in the meeting Science 2023 with a poster presentation of her doctoral research In [the Hate Booth]: a gamified installation to curb hate speech on the net. 

IN [the Hate Booth] is a Digital media-art project composed of two dimensions, a physical one, a light booth; and a virtual one, an interactive fiction game, which invites one to a journey of discovery. This proposal reflects cyberspace as a fertile ground for toxic disinhibition of hate speech, where trolls and bots escape into the guarded but unregulated space of the Internet.

Thus, the project starts from the analysis of the problem of hate speech and its online manifestations to propose a new way to work on it, with young people and adolescents, and assess their contribution in preventing or mitigating the impact of hate speech on the identity development of young people.

Science 2023 will take place in Aveiro, from 5 to 7 July 2023. The meeting aims to connect higher education institutions and the business and industrial sector, with the intention of promoting and developing science aimed not only at helping citizens but also increasing their scientific literacy.
