CIAC AND TECHNN&ART PROMOTE WEBINAR ABOUT THE COLLECTION OF FILM POSTERS OF THE MUNICIPAL MUSEUM OF FARO

The seminar “The collection of posters of Joaquim António Viegas at the Municipal Museum of Faro”, directed by CIAC researcher and Professor Jorge Carrega will take place on 31 May at 14h30.

This webinar was created in a partnership between research center TECHN&ART, from the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, and CIAC, from the University of Algarve, in order to develop a future project about this collection.

The collection of Joaquim António Viegas, which is maintained by the Municipal Museum of Faro, includes about 330 posters. Dating from the late nineteenth century to the 1930s, these posters advertised film screenings, variety shows, and advertising. The core group dedicated to cinema has been promoted through exhibitions like this and has been published in the exhibition’s catalog.

Jorge Carrega holds a PhD in Communication, Culture, and Arts (UAlg, 2014). Since 2011, he has been lecturing History of Cinema at the University of Algarve. Currently, he is a member of CIAC’s Scientific Committee, where he coordinates the Research Groupon Film Studies.
