SUSANA COSTA TEACHES WORKSHOP AS PART OF THE PROGRAM ” CIENTIFICAMENTE PROVÁVEL”

On 3 and 10 May 2023, CIAC researcher Susana Costa teaches the workshop Let’s talk about… hate speech on the Internet, at Loulé Secondary School. The workshop is organized as part of the program Cientificamente Provável of project  PROPS.

The workshop addresses video games’ potential and appealingness for creating a space for dialogue and reflection on the messages spread online and their effects on the way young people construct representations of the Other. Video games and narrative fiction can be used as pedagogical agents, promoting digital citizenship and critical thinking to address issues of discrimination and inequality underlying online hate speech and cyberbullying.

Cientificamente Provável is a joint program of the State Secretariat for Education (through the School Libraries Network) and the State Secretariat for Science, Technology and Higher Education. It aims to promote knowledge and contribute to the improvement of the educational path of young people, establishing closer links between higher education institutions and elementary and secondary schools with the mediation of school libraries.
