CYPET SYMPOSIUM
THE UNIVERSITY OF THE ALGARVE HOSTS THE FINAL SYMPOSIUM OF PROJECT CYPET
On the 29 and 30 June 2023, the University of the Algarve hosts the Symposium Cyberperformance: Artistic and Pedagogical Practices. This is the final symposium of project CyPet (Development of a new pedagogical model for teaching cyberperformance in higher education), carried out by CIAC by researchers of the University of the Algarve, University Institute of Maia, and the Open University of Lisbon.
Besides presenting conclusions and contributions of the project for the teaching of cyberperformance, the Symposium will include presentations by the networked performance and research group Utterings, with the participation of artists Daniel Pinheiro (PT) and Annie Abrahams (FR) and collaboration, online, of other members of the group, Constança Carvalho Homem (PT), Curt Cloninger (US) and Nerina Cocchi (BE).
The group will present a performance that explores the weird and delicate nature of the liminal space between music and language, as well as the tension between live and online interaction. Being a practice that was developed remotely, the space is activated in the same way and configured in this specificity. For the first time, the audience will have the opportunity of watching both the collective result (which was made possible through the network) and the result of this interaction in the bodies of two members of the group, who will be present in the room.
Project CyPet was carried out from January 2022 to June 2023 and was financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology. This project, which was coordinated by Professor Mirian Tavares and developed by CIAC researchers, aims to explore the theories and practices of cyberperformance from the creative, performative, and communication perspectives. The project’s objective is to develop a pedagogical model for the inclusion of cyberperformance in higher education curricula.
